What’s your story of the stars aligning?

Earlier this week I was having a drink swiping through Tinder. Accidentally super swiped on someone. I was like alright whatever, it is what is. Well a but later we matched. Her bio shows she shares a bunch of my hobbies. Spark up a conversation with a compliment on her cosplay. Messaging back and forth late into the night. Well we continue to talk the next day a half throughout the day between work and stuff.

Now I have a unique name for a small town. I go by a short form of my name. Needless to say it’s notable. She tells me I work with her sister. Now I guess who the sister is. Me and the sister talked about hobbies and stuff a few months ago and she talked about having a sister that I’d get along with as we share the same unique hobbies. The girl I’m messaging says her sister has talked a bunch about me, all good stuff over the few months from when we have worked together. So I’m like that great to hear. Good character reference.

It gets better. She then asks are you thej-jem that used to work at X fast food restaurant? The staff were always talking about this guy that used to work there by your name. They would tell great stories. All good stuff it turns out. I did work there and told her that it was me. I haven’t worked there in over 5 1/2 years and they still talk about me.

Well I got her number and we’ve been texting throughout the day for the last few days. Asked to hangout and we will hangout next week.

I know stuff like this is common for people to know everyone in a small town. But it’s just great to hear things line up in my favor and that I’ve made such a good impact on a bunch of people in my town that they remember and still talk about me.

  1. I was doing online dating on Bumble for almost two years. Was looking for something long-term, but nothing lasted more than a few dates. I had met a girl, who was cute but fairly uninteresting, and I went with it, because I felt like it was my only chance at a relationship.

Then, out of nowhere, a cute girl messages me. She’s smart, funny, and wants to meet me. We eventually meet, hit it off, and kiss on the first date. We’ve been dating since. The crazy part is that she had gone on Bumble to deactivate her account, having given up, when she saw me.

  2. I was scrolling through tinder and saw a cute girl who listed who snap so I reached out, we talked and she had just gotten stood up that very day so we met up.

Been together almost 2 years now. Very glad that other dude bailed.

  3. Oh SHIT, this is perfect for me. I found a very small YouTube creator (~15K) by pure chance years ago on a random video and subscribed to her because her content seemed nice. She kinda just disappeared and stopped uploading. Flash forward to earlier this week and I found her on OKCupid, around 30 miles from me. At first, I wasn’t sure it was her, so I messaged her saying that she looked really familiar to that creator. It wasn’t until I checked out her channel after messaging her that I put 2 and 2 together that it was her!

Just what are the odds? Even if nothing happens, it still blows my mind.

  4. I was 16 at the time.

We were sitting in living room watching tv, when my father said “I wonder what Mr. Candan and his family are doing lately, I’d like to visit him sometime, maybe we’ll have dinner, two families” as his phone ranged. It was Candan.

Apparently Candan thought the same about my father and invited us for dinner. They’re the 9th floor neighbours of us you see, and they have this huge balcony where you can grill.

We went there a couple days later, and my father and him were chatting. He was talking about his new duties as the new president of Rotary club of Tarabya, Istanbul. He mentioned he was seeking someone to send over to the United States as an exchange student. My dad says “what about inwector? He has always wanted to go to United States”. I looked at Candan, he said “Would you like to go to United States for a year?” which I immediately replied yes.

I went to USA when I was 17. I was close minded, unenlightened person when I went there. I knew no English.

After my year there, I spoke English as well as I spoke my mother tongue Turkish, my eyes were opened, my mind was pristine and keen, I was woken up. This changed my life.

That single night changed my life.

  5. Went to Costco the day before my birthday to get a birthday cake. They had only ONE cake that said happy birthday, and it just so happened to be my favorite flavor. It’s like the Universe was wishing me a happy birthday!!

  6. Meeting my girlfriend was this “click” where everything just fell into place.

I was out drinking the day before meeting her, a nice afternoon pub hangout with a close friend where we discussed the future (kids, where to live, what kinda life we hoped for). I had to leave for a sales-class-thing at work, that my 22yo ass figured wouldn’t mind me having a few beers beforehand.
On my way there I hit the curb going way too fast on my bike, somehow tore the fabric on the top of my shoulders during the tumble and felt that ominous ‘bump’ as my head hit the pavement – before landing feet first against a shop wall on the other side of the pavement. Got up, went to work, bleeding and confused, and called the ER when the headache wouldn’t go away. We agreed that I should not get blackout drunk during a party at college the following day – ok.

I only had a few beers (again 22yo and dumb), so I was a lot more present and less chaotic/wild than I’d normally be.

Struck up a conversation with my GF for the first time. Throughout I for whatever reason blurted out the contents of yesterday’s talk with my friend, and we had this strange silence looking at each other, which was finally interrupted by her saying “that’s exactly what I want!”

We agreed to be exclusive a few days later, she accidentally met my parents after a week and by week two we agreed to become a couple.

Life is weird. If I hadn’t hit my head I would be blackout drunk and chasing after the girl I was trying to get with at the time or getting blackout drunk at the beer pong table. If I hadn’t had that conversation the day before our match might not have been that instant.

  7. Went on makeafriend because I was bored and lonely after a devastating breakup with a girl I had been with for almost eight years. End up making some great friends, among them a young woman about eight hours away by car. We got to the point that we were talking a comical amount, decided to meet, and hit it off immediately. We now live together and are engaged!

  8. It happened quite often that I met people I knew I cities I would not have expected to meet them. Once I was on a festival and in a very crowded area. Like not able to move crowded, and thought: I should look around to see if I see some familiar faces by chance. I look around and notice I’m shoulder to shoulder with someone I met only once 3 years earlier at another festival. The other time I was out of the town I was living with a few friends from that town to party. As I was chilling with my best friend somewhere with the view to the dancefloor, she tells me „that one guy over there looks and dances exactly like one of your friends from your hometown.“ I looked over and thought exactly the same. So much that i decided to go over and check. It was him. And my best friend who recognised him only met him once. That guy wasn’t anywhere near the town he was living that town. Not even the same state. He was visiting some friends in a city, that was 100km away from where we met. The next time was when some of my hometown friends went to Berlin for a few days. One evening we went out to party and chose one club without thinking that much about it. At one point I was standing with a friend close to the restrooms and for some reason look behind him, just to see another friend from that friend group standing there. We didn’t knew that she was in Berlin too, together with other fiends of ours. She endet up joining our trip to the next city. The next time I was simply working I my cafe in the city I am living now. Like so often we were packed. At one point I notice someone come in and look over. And it was a guy I knew from my hometown. We even went to 4th grade together. He had no clue I worked there or even lived in that city. Another time when I still used to live in my hometown I went with some friends to a very small festival (300peope top) far away, because the festival was so small I decided to just start some conversations with random people. The first girl I was talking to, asked me where I was from. I told her the town and she said. Oh I know someone from there and told me the name of the best friend of my ex. Then the last time something like that happened. I was walking home from work and randomly saw two guys I knew from my hometown sitting there eating a kebab. At that point I was already so used to that stuff that I casually said hi and proceeded to chat a bit with them an go on my way home. It’s like they’re follow me

  9. Honestly, that’s been 2020 in a nutshell for me.

    – March, got laid off because the pandemic was worsening. Spent a month on unemployment sending out 7 job applications a day.
    – April, got a temp job for an engineering company making models.
    – May, got a job with a major biomedical engineering company
    – June, tapped to do contract 3D design work on the side making big bucks
    – July, introduced to my now-girlfriend by an old roommate
    – October, interviewed for my dream job. Thought it went horribly.
    – Mid-October, called back for two more interviews
    – November, received an offer for my dream job. I start the first week of December.

This entire year has been a fever dream. From unimaginable stress and uncertainty, to relative stability, to finding someone who I genuinely care about and connect with, to getting my dream job. This type of year is something that I thought only happened in Hallmark movies.

  10. I was fresh out of university and looking for a job.

I was scrolling through my emails on an account that I usually use for spam and found a job advertisement.

I initially didn’t want to apply for it as it wasn’t what I was looking for, but I thought “fuck it” and emailed them anyway.

They wanted me to start immediately, so I said I could start next week.

At the induction I met a girl who lives in the next town over from me and we both have to catch the train in order to commute. The trains couldn’t get either of us to work on time on a Sunday so I completely out of the blue offered to carpool with her even though I’d be adding quite a bit of time to my drive to pick her up.

We work on a rolling 4 days on 4 days off team 1 team 2 shift pattern. I was assigned to team 2 and she was assigned to team 1. As she was hired as a senior member of staff she had me transferred to team 1 so I could carpool for her.

2 days after I started a new girl started, and it was as close as I’ve ever felt to the notion of love at first sight. We hit it off super well and we’ve been dating for a couple of months now.

Never would have met her if I didn’t offer to carpool with a stranger. Wild stuff.

  11. My stars aligning isn’t really dating related. I had just gotten out of a super toxic situationship with my ex. I moved out finally, in my own place with my best friend. He became an asshole and we don’t speak, cool.

Took a week and isolated myself cuz my mental health was going south and i needed to regroup.

I get an email from a studio i tried to work at and they want me to start interning with possible employment. I thought why not!

I had also been working on music for the last year aimlessly. Realizing looking back at my songs, i have enough music to drop an LP. i started fine tuning and working on that.

Been unemployed since march due to covid. Lots of job leads, nothing though. My friend hits me up and says she needs to contract an audio editor for a project with more possible opportunities. Decent!

My friend wants to do music videos within me and knows people with equipment. we plot out our team, and now we wait to raise funds to execute.

The studio i started interning at can tell i know my shit, and can tell i want to engineer. The engineers there asked if they could throw me into their sessions today. My bosses OK’d it.

While working on my album i got some really good feedback from a friend and now he’s my executive producer. I have local indie labels paying attention now. It feels good.

Losing the love of my life, having to move out and restart my life during covid. My family taking care of me and getting little unemployment money (was mostly unemployed last year due to health issues), it’s been stressful. Literally living penny to penny some days. With all these great opportunities happening around me, it feels everything happened the way it did to prepare me for the next phase of my life. the stars are aligned, just gotta keep my head on straight!

  12. I met my now wife while I was living in Boston and she was living near NYC. I was at a work site in Hartford and she was at a 5k race in Hartford and we both happened to swipe right.

  13. Covid is both the one of the best things to happen to me, and one of the worst.

Before covid, I got into DJing from a buddy of mine. To practice live, I’d head over to a local bar and spin with a different buddy of mine.

I went over one night and found my buddy talking to this beautiful woman. The three of us chatted a bit, she seemed interested, we friendly connected, but that was all. I started practicing and those two left. My buddy said they were having a serious conversation.

Well, I texted the girl saying it’s too bad she left early, and we got to chatting. The thing was: She was leaving her ex-boyfriend at that time, having a meeting with my buddy over what was happening.

We met up a few days later to talk about the ex-issues, but it felt like a date. She’s been leaving him for weeks.

A few nights out with friends together passed, then covid came up. The two of us started spending a TON of time together, just us meeting. She pretty much started living with me.

Covid died down a lot at that moment in that country. There were like 1-2 cases in the prefecture, so we headed out with friends to bars and whatnot. Had a ton of fun.

But then I had to move away. We were planning on breaking when I moved, but we broke down and continue it.

That buddy who was a link between us also met one of my friends and those two are as close as me and my SO.

  14. To preface this you should know I have (quite) a few tattoos.
I met this guy on tinder who had the same first name as the main character of a series I absolutely love; to the point of getting a small tattoo on my right thigh representing said series.
We chat, get along great, I mention my tattoo and joke about having only matched with him because of his name.
So far just a fun coincidence!
After getting to know each other more I find out his middle name is “Fox” and yes you guessed it… on my left thigh is a big fox tattoo.
Been together ever since, and love to tell this story and joke about how it was a “sign” we were meant to be together
