Two Queensland police officers detained and suspended in drug trafficking probe

Two Queensland police officers have been detained as part of a five-month investigation into the alleged trafficking of dangerous drugs.

In a statement, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) said officers had executed search warrants across the Gold Coast and Brisbane on Saturday morning.

As a result, nine people were detained, including a 28-year-old male senior constable from the south-eastern region and a 29-year-old male senior constable from the central region.

QPS said they were being questioned, but were not arrested and no charges had been laid.

Both have been suspended from duty.

‘Serious allegations’

Another former member of the QPS was also among the group.

Operation Sierra Edgehill, which is investigating the alleged possession and supply of dangerous drugs, began in March and involves officers from the Ethical Standards command, the Organised Crime Gangs Group and the Gold Coast police district.

The ABC understands four properties on the Gold Coast and one in Brisbane were searched.

QPS said it would not comment further while Ethical Standards Command was investigating.

“In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct,” the QPS statement said.

“This does not mean the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.”
