The ABC understands the Queensland president of the Liberal National Party, David Hutchinson, has tendered his resignation.
Mr Hutchinson has been under pressure for the past six weeks since Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington blamed “back room bullies” for leaking a damaging internal party poll against her.
Among those calling for his resignation at the time was federal frontbencher Peter Dutton, who also criticised the LNP president for maintaining a commercial relationship with political rival Clive Palmer.
Mr Hutchinson responded by cutting off ties with Mr Palmer, but refused to stand down, although he did send a message to party members apologising for his part in the controversy.
The party president hit the headlines again this month with the revelation that party founder Lawrence Springborg had been dropped for the LNP executive.
It is understood Mr Hutchinson’s resignation will take effect from Monday.
