Quality Assurance Engineer Job in Brisbane – part time

Role purpose – Why do we need this role?

We have proven the model, signed up some of the largest cloud, carrier and data centre providers in the world as not just users, but strategic partners.  The focus for us is now scale.

We are looking for a passionate QA/E who has the experience and ability to help Cloudscene scale our Marketplace platform as we exit the startup phase and push through the scale up phase.  We are embarking on a complete re-architecture of our platform to make sure we are ready for the decade ahead.

Reporting to the Software Development Manager, the Quality Assurance Engineer will assess software quality through manual and automated testing. They will be responsible for championing software quality, finding and reporting quality defects, bugs and glitches, ultimately ensuring that our products, services and applications work correctly. 

The Quality Assurance Engineer will also be responsible for a drive toward instilling Quality Engineering practices and standards and instilling quality concepts across the business.

Role Responsibilities – What will you do here?

The Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring application and infrastructure changes are thoroughly tested and test tools are used appropriately to ensure an effective and efficient test process.

This includes the following responsibilities:

  • Leading the creation, development and improvement of quality by implementing best practice testing processes.

  • Collaborating with Business Analysts, Product Lead, Developers and other stakeholders to understand testing needs and identify opportunities for automated load, security and feature testing.

  • Lead the way with tooling, and procedures for a continual push towards greater automation.

  • Review and analyse user stories and acceptance criteria and develop effective test plans and automated tests in collaboration with the Development team.

  • Execute tests (manual and automated) on software to ensure all acceptance criteria are satisfied and the software is ready for general release. 

  • Accepting the release for production.

  • Providing accurate reporting of problems identified during test execution and ensuring appropriate resolution.

  • Manage defect tracking and resolution of defects. 

  • Perform pre-release, post-implementation and regression testing as required by the Development teams and business. 

  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle. 


Role Requirements – What are we looking for?

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a QA Tester, 2 years in behaviour driven test automation.

  • Proven working experience with a variety of tools that support test automation e.g. Selenium, Behat, Gherkin,  etc.

  • Knowledge and experience in SQL and querying databases using tools such as Metabase.

  • Experience working in an agile environment (ideally Scrum).

  • Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery process.

  • API testing experience (RestAssured, Postman).

  • Experience using source control tools Git and Gitlab.

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of functional and performance testing.

  • Ability and willingness to wear several hats to help meet our development objectives.

  • Excellent time management and project prioritisation skills.

  • An open mindset, able to consider new ideas and approaches to complex situations.

  • Proven problem-solving ability.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, working within a cross functional team.

  • Self-manager and self-starter with the ability to research and solve complex issues independently.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

  • Works with integrity, trust and respect.

Key Performance Measures

  • Defect catching – percentage of defects caught before reaching production.

  • Count of automated and improved tests.

  • Reduction in number of manual tests.

  • Coverage requirements – percentage of requirements covered by at least one test.

  • Tooling efficiency – continual improvement on testing runtimes.
