Drainage Specialists to Keep Brisbane Aged Care Residents Safe

It’s become increasingly obvious that Brisbane has a high ongoing flood risk. This, especially in nursing homes, can cause high levels of stress and anxiety. Elevated stress levels in aged care residents can impact their physical and mental health as well as their cognitive performance. Additionally, it can prolong or worsen any current illnesses or make residents more susceptible to catching one by weakening the immune system. It’s not always possible to reduce stress, especially in emergency situations like floods. Therefore, avoiding the situation through proper planning and up-to-date systems is a must.
In the 2011 floods, the Yeronga retirement village and Regis Aged Care facility went underwater. Bedridden patients on higher floors went over 24 hours without electricity and were eventually floated out on rubber dinghies to safety. As a result of the upgrades made to their stormwater drainage systems, during the 2022 floods the water only got to shin deep depth. Similar flooding incidents have happened in Stanthorpe and Mount Coolum.
To keep aged care residents safe and free from stress, Brisbane Drainage Specialists can come in and consult on any drainage issues the nursing home may be facing. From persistent blocked drains to inadequate roof draining, to designing and maintaining a stormwater drainage system, these specialists can make sure your aged care facility will withstand the next flooding season.
How They Do It
To fix the drainage problems, the drain specialist will first find and resolve the underlying issue. This could be an intrusion from a tree root, or ground movements breaking the pipes. By using no-dig technology, there is a significant reduction in cost, time, and noise (which could upset many aged care residents). It also results in zero damage to pathways, driveways, gardens, and a limited amount of mess which the specialists clean up regardless.
For a broken pipe, a ten-step patching process is used, involving a small camera that inspects the damages without the plumbers needing to dig up the pipe. After the blockage is found, a cable and or high-pressure water jet is used to clear it. Afterwards, a liner is installed and inflated in place in order to set the pipe. Following this the liner is deflated and removed resulting in a new pipe. Throughout the process, there is constant inspection through the camera, allowing the specialist to monitor the situation and deal with any unexpected issues as they arise.
