I’m in college and trying to get into golfing with my buddies. I am planning on buying a used set tomorrow off of someone from Craigslist. Is there anything I should look for or know to not sound like an idiot?

The best way to avoid sounding like an idiot is to openly acknowledge what you know and don’t know.
Do a little homework first, so you can ask the right questions, but it’s okay if you don’t have all the answers.
“Nice golf bats. Which end do I hold?”
Bro it’s Craigslist. The seller won’t give a toss as long as you have their money.
Wear a golf outfit and be no younger than 60
Why not rent clubs for the first few times you play? Make sure you like the game before dropping coin on clubs.
Ask your buddies to help you out, your just starting out and they should know your knowledge is limited in the hobby.
Inspect each club. Make sure there are no bent shafts, club heads are not too badly dented, grips are ok…

You’ll figure out which clubs work best for your purposes and your style/strengths with more practice. You could also scour a Goodwill in a fancy neighborhood to find some sets.
Don’t worry about sounding like an idiot. Craigslist seller won’t care. They just want to make a buck on whatever they’re selling and move on.
Google is your friend.
Try not to get mugged and/or shot
What are the clubs? Lets start with quality and features. Then decide if the price matches that and then if the clubs match you. What’s the sets age. How many clubs, what are they (number of woods, irons, hybrids,) and what brand are they, whats the asking price. A lot of info but it’s an involved game…
I would think a little research about how to tell if the clubs are the right size for you might be handy. Otherwise for just beginning and trying out the sport, try not to spend too much.
